Mountain Cur

History
– The Mountain Cur was brought to America from Europe by colonizers of the mountains in Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
– They were used to guard family and property, as well as chase and tree game.
– Mountain Curs provided meat and pelts for personal use or trade, making them valuable in the frontier.
– During World War II, many breeders left rural areas to work in factories, leading to a decline in the breed.
– Four individuals are credited with saving the breed and setting the Mountain Cur breed standard.

Description
– Mountain Curs are short-coated dogs that come in blue, black, yellow, brown, or brindle coloration.
– Some individuals may have white markings on the face or chest.
– Males typically weigh between 30 and 60 pounds, while females weigh between 16 and 24 inches.
– They have a height range of 18 to 26 inches for males and 16 to 24 inches for females.

Temperament
– Mountain Curs are intelligent and easily trained.
– They are neither vicious nor shy.
– They aim to please their humans and get along well with children and other pets.
– If deprived of the opportunity to hunt, guard, or work around a farm, they may become anxious and bored.
– When given a job to do, they are generally happy and obedient.
